Low Waste Self-Care Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day, let’s reduce waste and overconsumption while still taking care of ourselves and making it a special day!

Ditch the plastic wrapped chocolates and flowers or fast fashion and plastic décor and use this holiday to add a little sustainable self-care. Pick up flowers from a local florist. Source some chocolate locally and not wrapped in plastic. Pass by the impulse buys at the store for cheap plastic décor and use plants and organic materials instead.

Let your favorite person know you love them with a gift of self-care and maybe even make a handmade card while you’re at it. 😉

Create a Spa Experience at Home

Try out a DIY face scrub like this brown sugar honey scrub. You probably have those ingredients at home. Or pick up some of 8 Days Botanicals’ botanical honey body polish that is safe to use on the face and entire body. Pair that with some refillable bubble bath or bath soaks and enjoy the moment of Zen.

Don’t forget to light a locally made soy candle and dim the lights. Time to curl up with that book you’ve been wanting to read or maybe a partner will give you a hand or foot massage while you’re soaking.

Not in the mood for a bath? Try just a foot soak and relax with the book and face scrub.

Using what you already have at home is also a great way to keep it low waste! Maybe you received a face mask or candles over the holidays and haven’t had time to use them yet. Dig them out of the closet and use them!

Thoughtful Low-Waste Self-Care Gifts

Gift your favorite person a natural roll-on perfume or some body oil they have been wanting but haven’t bought for themselves.

Create a little basket with a candle, body polish, and a perfume or body oil. Bonus points for thrifting the basket!

Pick up some fair trade chocolate.

Make the DIY face scrub ahead of time as a gift in a reused jar.

Create a coupon book for foot massages.

Book a couples massage.

The key here is less waste, use what you have, and buy what they truly want.

Unplug and Connect

Unplug from the world and connect with your favorite person. We are so connected to 24/7 news, social media, and constant blasts of things to buy, it’s good to take some time to unplug.

Take a break from screens and make a plant-forward meal together to enjoy by candlelight.

Take a break from screens and go for a picnic to watch the sunset.

Go on a volunteering date!

Take a break from screens and do couples yoga or meditate together.

Go for a hike.

Go to your favorite local restaurant.

Do what makes your favorite person light up and build a deeper connection together.

Self-care and Valentine’s Day can be sustainable. This Valentine’s Day, let’s celebrate love for ourselves and others, and for the planet too. Embrace mindful, low-waste self-care that nourishes our souls and the earth.
